'Stop it right there!' - Abena Osei-Asare 'scolds' Sam George at PAC sitting

There was a brief moment of tension at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting when the Chairperson, Abena Osei-Asare, firmly interrupted the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, over what she described as unnecessary political commentary.

During the hearing on November 3, 2025, the committee questioned the minister over expenditure concerns at Ghana Post.

Although the company posted profits in 2023, its operating costs rose by 35%, while administrative expenses surged by 52%.

Responding to the queries, Sam George attributed the increases to what he termed the “mismanagement of the economy” by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. He cited the depreciation of the cedi and rising foreign exchange payments to airlines as major factors.

“Mr Chairman, the answer is very simple, the mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo-Addo administration. Ghana Post pays airlines in dollars for parcels sent to Europe and the US, so when you saw the mismanagement when Ken Ofori-Atta, Abena (referring to Abena Osei-Asare) and others were at the Finance Ministry…” he said.

Before he could complete his statement, Abena Osei-Asare cut in sharply, visibly displeased.

“Respectfully, minister, stop it right there. Go straight to your question and answer and don't be name calling... please, just answer the question,” she interjected.

Sam George then clarified that the surge in expenditure was largely the result of foreign exchange losses.
