Stop harassing NDC activists

THE Western regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Kufuor administration to stop what it terms the campaign of harassment and intimidation against former government functionaries of the NDC officials and functionaries.

In a resolution adopted at the end of the party’s regional congress at Sekondi, it stressed that the reconciliation efforts by the government cannot succeed if it continues to create an aggrieved class of Ghanaians .

According to the resolution, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government needs to re-consider its policy of vendetta and victimisation and ensure that it tackles the problems of unemployment and poverty which are undermining the country’s development.

It noted that the large scale dismissals of persons perceived to be sympathetic to the cause of the NDC is unfortunate and undemocratic.

The resolution pointed out that the government’s decision to dissolve the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and terminate the appointments of personnel of the National Mobilisation Programme (NMP) puts a question mark on the credibility of the current registration of the unemployed by the government.

It called on the government to reduce the price of petroleum products in view of the decline in the prices of crude oil on the world market.

The resolution further called on the government to protect the interest of the nation at negotiations with international bodies.

It expressed its disappointment with the stand of the government at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiations..

The resolution also stressed the need for the national leadership of the party to re-define the NDC’s philosophy and policy orientation.
