Stop Lamenting and Explore Opportunities - Minister Tells Northerners

(Ash), 4 June Mr Donald Adabre. the Upper East Regional Minister, has called on the people of the north to stop hammering on deprivation in the area and instead start thinking positively of how to help themselves. He reminded them of the Biblical saying that "God helps those who help themselves" and said the future is very bright for the three northern regions. Mr Adabre made the call in a speech read on his behalf at the "Northern Students Day" celebration organised by the Kumasi Polytechnic branch of the Northern Students Union (NSU) in Kumasi It was on the theme "The role of the youth of Northern Ghana in its total development". The Regional Minister said the government has been putting in every effort to ensure that the North gets its fair share of the national cake. He asked the youth to take advantage of the sound environment provided by the government and encourage people in their communities to support programmes that will bring development. Mr Adabre said when they have done this, then they would be identifying themselves with the immediate needs of their people. "It is when the younger ones see your active participation in such communal activities that they would be motivated more than ever to get actively involved in such community projects", he added. The Regional Minister urged them not to lose touch with realities on the ground otherwise they would not rpt not be in position to make any positive contributions towards the development of their areas. Mr Adabre said it is strange that some people from the North even refuse posting to the place or ask for posting out of the north on the grounds that the place lacks basic amenities. "It is our turn to contribute our quota towards the development of our regions to make them more attractive to people from the other parts of the country," he added.
