Stolen bolts & nuts on Adomi Bridge fixed

A swift intervention by the Ghana Highways Authority has saved the country’s iconic bridge, the Adomi Bridge, from a looming danger.

The quality and safety of the bridge, which was recently renovated by the government, was compromised following the stealing of 45 bolts and nuts that had been used to brace the bridge.

The €12.9M renovated Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku links the Eastern and Volta Regions.

Following a report on the issue by Onua FM two weeks ago, the Eastern Regional Director of Bridges at the Ghana Highways Authority, Yakub Koray, promised to fix the bolts and nuts at the shortest possible time.

Speaking to Onua FM Monday, Assembly Member for Atimpoku Electoral Area, Nana Yaw Ampem Darko said the Authority had as at Sunday, November 11 fixed all the stolen bolts and nuts.

“The bolts and nuts have been fixed, that aspect is done,” he said, but said the streetlights on the stretch of the bridge remained nonfunctional, saying “[the street] light problems is still there”

He thus urged the authorities to fix the streetlights.

The bridge was in December 2015 reopened to the public after being closed for 22 months for some major rehabilitation works. The rehabilitation was at a cost of €12.9 million with funds secured from the Bank of Austria.
