Stevanovic must not return to Ghana - NDC secretary

A member of the Black Stars Management Committee says Goran Stevanovic, the Serbian trainer of the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, should consider himself relieved off his position.

Yaw Boateng-Gyan, who is a National Executive member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, says he does not expect to see Goran Stevanovic back in the country again.

Speaking in an interview on PeaceFM, the NDC National Organiser said since Plavi, as the Serbian coach is affectionately called, once reiterated that the Black Stars will return from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with their fifth title, he should consider himself fired following the failure of the team to even advance to the finals.

The jinx still remains unbroken as Ghana's search for a fifth Nations Cup trophy was undone by a 77minute strike by Zambia's Emmanuel Mayuka.

The substitute, Mayuka, completed a smash-and-grab victory for the underdogs as he tucked the ball beyond Ghana keeper Adam Kwarasey from 22 yards to complete a miserable day for the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists.

The Chipolopolo striker peeled off John Boye before sending a curling shot beyond the reach of Kwarasey.

But in a dejavu for Asamoah Gyan- whose wasted penalty kick denied Ghana an historic World Cup semi-final- the Al Ain striker again wasted another penalty and an opportunity to put the Black Stars ahead after just eight minutes.

Obviously disappointed at the Black Stars failure, the NDC National Organiser said from the little he observed during his time with the team in Gabon, the coach is too headstrong and steeped in his ways.

"I'm clearly disappointed...We had already booked our flight to go and witness the finals...His substitutions on the day (against Zambia) were totally bad, it did not help the team at all...If you substitute your dangerous players (Asamoah Gyan, Dede, etc) then obviously you become tame...We kept on warning him that if he fails to bring the (African) cup home to Ghana, he will be fired so for me he should consider himself sacked...He's too stubborn...but in all honesty, if our selection had been perfectly done this could have been avoided," Yaw Boateng-Gyan said.
