Sterling International Limited, local subsidiary of the Cresta Paints Group, on Friday presented a solar powered mechanized borehole facility to the chief and people of Nyerede, in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern region.

The plant, which cost about $8000, and can provide about 5,000 litres of water each day, was constructed under Project MAJI, Sterling Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to alleviate the water needs of communities around the country.

Director of Sterling International Limited, Emmanuel Dagadu, in handing over the project said, “The construction of this water system was occasioned when Michael Okyere Baafi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana free Zones Authority, approached my outfit about the dire water need of his people. I quickly approached Project MAJI, since they had the track record in such constructions, and they accepted to come provide the community with a plant at no cost to residents.”

Dade Mantse Kofi Boateng, Chief of the Korle Nkwanta community, where the project was cited, thanked the Sterling Group and Project MAJI for answering their call, and providing one of their primary needs as a community.

Eastern Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Ing. Henry Ampah Johnson, advised community members to take very good care of the project to ensure its longevity.

MCE for the New Juaben South Municipality, Isaac Apaw Gyasi, who was present at the handing over ceremony, was full of praise for the Sterling Group for the construction of the new water plant for his people.
