A lady, who tortured her two-year-old stepson with electric water-heater, has been arrested and charged for causing harm.

Abena Tawiah who claims to be 17 years, a resident of Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region, allegedly plugged an electric water-heater until it reached a boiling point and used it on the body of the little boy last Saturday.

The boy was left with burns mostly in the cheek, chin, nose and private parts. He was also seen in a mobile phone video with what appears to be marks of physical assault, all over his body as he wept and groaned in pain.

His mouth, nose and cheek were swollen. Gentian violet had been applied to the areas with fresh burns allegedly inflicted on him by the stepmother, who neighbours claim, has been maltreating the boy.

Tawiah who went into hiding after the November 23 incident, was arrested Wednesday, November 27 by the Nkawie District Police Command.

She allegedly denied using heater on the boy, claiming the wounds were the results of diseases he suffered, 3news.com has gathered.

“We took her to court immediately she was arrested. She told the court she is 17 years so she was remanded into police custody to reappear on December 5, 2019,” DSP Sylvanus Dalmeida of the Nkawie DOVVSU told Sir John, host of Adekyee Mu Nsem on Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

Her please has been reserved as investigations into the case is currently ongoing.

The boy lives with his stepmother at Afari, a community in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti region.

Akoma FM first reported the story of the boy on Monday triggering concerns from the public.

Police moved in quickly but the lady had absconded. Following intelligence and search, the suspect was arrested.

The boy has meanwhile been taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
