"Statesman" and "Daily Guide" Lied - NMC

The National Media Commission notes with grave concern the stories on the Front page of Tuesday April 20, 2004 of The Statesman, ?Eva Lokko to go? and the front page of the Wednesday, April 21 2004 edition of the Daily Guide stating that ?the NMC is about to revoke the appointment of the director-general of GBC for failing to perform to expectation.

We wish to state clearly that the stories are untrue. We wish to add, for the records, that the board of directors of GBC recommended to the commission for various reasons, the termination of the appointment of the deputy director-general, Mr. Kenneth Amankwah. The issue of the ?revocation of the appointment of the D-G, Ms Eva Lokko, is not before the commission.

Professional management imperatus require that we respect and cooperate with the board that we have duly constituted and we cannot sidestep the board, for whatever reasons and revoke the appointment of the D-G. We wish to repeat that the issue of the ?revocation? of the appointment of the D-G, GBC is NOT before the Commission and the Commission is not considering it. It has always been our expectation that media practitioners would cross-check their stories before going public.
