The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) received the highest total news allocation of 41.6% as against the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 26%, Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) 10.6% and 13% for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in May 2012, as revealed by the state media.
The following was contained in the report, “Abuse of incumbency and pre-election political corruption in the upcoming elections,” launched by the Civil Society Coalition in Accra last week.
The coalition comprises the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC).
The report was mainly focused on abuse of government resources by the ruling parties and its contents have since been challenged by some of those named in it.
The report has, however, been commended in some quarters for bringing to the fore, the use of official public or state-organised events for campaigning by incumbent parties.
