Stanbic Bank marks Day of Caring

Staff of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited have partnered United Way, a not-for-profit organization devoted to impacting local communities, to mark their annual Day of Caring event. Staff of the bank spent their working day away from their daily routines to observe the one-day community-based event.

Staff of Stanbic Bank joined other volunteers to tutor the pupils of the Kotobabi Cluster of Schools, in Accra, and JM Basic School, in Kumasi, in different subjects to make the Unite for Education project a success. They also taught the teachers personal financial management tips.

Mr. Samuel Teye, Head, Human Capital at Stanbic Bank said training of teachers on financial literacy to spur community development is a key pillar of the bank’s CSI strategy.

“We are happy to be a part of this project and the success stories of these kids. Participating in this activity does not only relieve us of stress from work, it also gives us a sense of fulfilment, and ultimately, fun and joy”, he said.

The day was observed in several regions – Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Central, Eastern and Greater Accra regions. It sought to create an opportunity for organisations and volunteers to develop an enabling environment for children to access quality education in their communities.

The acting Executive Director of United Way Ghana, Janet L. Butler, commended staff volunteers of Stanbic Bank for participating in the 12th Annual Day of Caring program.

“We appreciate your support towards this noble project of promoting community development through literacy. The employees' spirit of volunteerism, ensuring that over 1600 children in Kumasi and Accra received the needed support towards their educational development, is greatly admirable”, she said.

Day of Caring is a one-day event that brings together dozens of caring employees from different corporate organizations, across the country, to volunteer with United Way Ghana through community service.

This year's Day of Caring program was tied into United Way Ghana's long-term project - Improving Basic Education (IBE), designed to positively change people’s attitudes and mindsets about education in communities, and also help build the capacity of schools to enable them deliver quality teaching, and provide opportunities for children to excel.
