Squatters at Sodom and Gomorrah rebuilding

Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - Squatters at Sodom and Gomorrah on Friday started putting up wooden structures barely 24 hours after fire gutted the shantytown.

A visit to the location by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) saw squatters busily rebuilding their structures in the rubble for accommodation.

Speaking to the GNA, Fuseini Ali, a squatter, who said he lost a television set; radio and five hundred thousand cedis as a result of Thursday's fire outbreak, said since he had nowhere to go, he had to rebuild his wooden structure.

He said the squatters were aware of the attempt by Government to relocate them but added that that would only "amount to bloodshed". Some of the squatters were playing their hi-fi system loudly and dancing while others were smoking leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Business activities at the nearby market had not been affected as traders were carrying out their usual activities.
