The South Dayi District Assembly has presented items worth GHC 83, 909.2 to 53 Persons living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the District at Kpeve.

Mr Ernest Patrick Kodzo Mallet, the District Chief Executive (DCE) who presented the items, said the Assembly over 300 PWDs on its register and had earlier presented some items to 96 of them.

He said the Assembly was committed to ensuring that PWDs were adequately empowered to become economically independent and support the local economy.

The DCE said the Assembly was also providing educational support to some PWDs at various levels of education to promote social inclusion.

Mr Mallet said the items were presented to the people based on business plans submitted to the Assembly by the beneficiaries and they had formed teams to monitor activities of the beneficiaries to ensure that the items were used judiciously.

Madam Emma Adom, the District Director of Social Welfare asked the beneficiaries to make good use of the items, saying, “ these items will become meaningful to you and the society, only when you put them to good use."

She advised them to cultivate the habit of savings to enable them to make "proper" provision for the future.

The items presented include; 15 chest freezers, two sewing machines, 15 table kiosks, five bags of cement and materials for the construction of goat pens.

Others are; 14 bags of rice, ten bags of sugar, 14 cartons of soap, 12 bags of millet, 30 bags of charcoal, 21 livestock and bags of maize, beans, and groundnuts.
