President Nana Akufo-Addo says government will soon establish a Technology Park in the Greater Accra Region to strengthen technological advancements in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and also tackle cyber security.

He said subsequent to Cabinet approval, “the framework agreement between Ghana and the Republic of Mauritius, for an initial investment in the development of a technology park in Dawa, in the Greater Accra Region, has been ratified by Parliament for implementation to begin”.

President Akufo-Addo disclosed this in his State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, February 8.

He bemoaned the rising rate of cybercrime and highlighted the need to clamp down on such activities to boost the use of technology and e-commerce to develop the country.

“Unfortunately, and predictably, a whole new set of dangers of cyber insecurity and fraud have emerged with these modern tools. We're working to strengthen cyber security to build confidence and protect the use of electronic communications in national development and ensure that our young technologically savvy people would keep Ghana firmly in the exciting IT economy and its many opportunities,” he noted.

He added that government is reforming schools’ curricula to deal with the weaknesses in the education system, and lay greater emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (S.T.E.M), reading, history, and technical and vocational skills.
