Ghanaian media personality and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has opened up about his brief detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), saying that although the conditions were basic, he was not subjected to any maltreatment.
Adom-Otchere was taken into custody on July 31, 2025, over a revenue assurance contract allegedly awarded during his tenure at GACL, which the OSP claims did not follow due process.
He was released on Friday, August 1, 2025, after revised bail conditions were approved, following an initial delay caused by his inability to meet the original requirement of presenting landed property as surety.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on August 4, 2025, the seasoned journalist described the conditions at the OSP's holding facility and clarified reports surrounding his property ownership.
"It's a normal place they detain every Ghanaian. You are detained with people who are also detained. Nobody maltreated anyone. That is for sure," he told host Bernard Avle.
"Yes, you will be in a room with other people... usually about 25 people, not in the same room. I was in a room with other people."
He revealed that although detainees were provided with basic items such as a double mattress, blanket, and clothing, they were not permitted any communication with the outside world, including their families.
"They give you a mattress... they treat you well. I wasn't due for a change of clothes yet because it was overnight. And by mid-day, they said we should get ready," he recounted.
"You can't contact anyone," he added.
The issue of bail conditions became central to public debate after Adom-Otchere disclosed that he could not meet the original terms because he does not own landed property in Ghana, a claim that has sparked widespread scepticism.
"I have no landed property in my name and that is easily verifiable," he said during the interview.
