Six vehicles crash in Takoradi

An articulated truck with registration number AS 2608-11, which was laden with bags of cement rammed the rear of a vehicle, which caused four other vehicles to collide in Takoradi, causing extensive damage and injury to two passengers.

An unidentified man, who became unconscious after hitting his head against the windscreen and another person, who bled from the nose, were rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi for treatment.

The accident happened near the Public Works Department (PWD) area between the Paa Grant Roundabout and Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout in Takoradi, but the names of the two injured persons were not immediately known.

According to an eyewitness, Koo Badu, the driver of a BMW white salon car with registration number ER 1974 U, which was moving towards the Nkrumah Roundabout, indicated intention to turn right to the PWD area while an articulated truck with registration number AE 1623-12 was also approaching from that direction.

The articulated vehicle hit the rear of the salon car with registration number GT 346 X resulting in the collision of the five vehicles with the following registration numbers AE 1623-12, a DAF articulated vehicle, GT7427-12, a KIA pick-up, with registration no. WR 785 Q, a Benz articulated vehicle, GT 346 X, a red salon car and ER 1937 U, a white BMW salon car, were all involved in the accident.

A police officer, George Bacha, who was at the accident scene, told DAILY GUIDE that the police would launch further investigations into the case.

The paper gathered that driver of the articulated truck lost control of the vehicle because its brakes became faulty as it approached the vehicles.

An eyewitness said the driver was rather moving at top speed which resulted in the accident.
