Six charged for murder of 2 Americans

Six people including, three Americans have been charged for the murder of two African Americans at Akwamu in the Eastern region.

Five of the accused, Nana Appia-Nti III, a mechanic, Nana Obiri Yeboah, a farmer, Brenda Kareema Mohammed, a pensioner, Yazid Alazim Mohammed, a businessman and Mensah Kamaugogo Muata, a surgeon assistant were charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit murder.

The sixth suspect, Anokye Yaw Frimgpong, a driver, was charged with murder.

The suspects were arraigned before an Accra Magistrate court on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

Police in Akosombo mounted a search for the two after they were reported missing.

They intensified their search after they found a pool of blood and a blood-stained cudgel in their room.

The deceased persons, MamelinaDiop, 75, and Nzinga Jaana, 69, were found buried two days after the missing report was filed.

Following their death, the United States Embassy in Ghana in a statement on Thursday, May 7, 2015, expressed regret over the incident and promised to provide the necessary consular assistance to the families of the deceased.

“The U.S. Embassy in Ghana reports with deepest sympathy that two U.S. citizens have been killed in the Eastern Region of Ghana. We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims.

"The U.S. Embassy in Ghana is in contact with family members and is providing appropriate consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment at this time,” portions of the statement said.

The Embassy also stated they had “confidence in the rule of law in Ghana” and urged persons with information regarding the offence to report it to the Ghana Police Service.

The case document submitted by the investigating officer David Dzokoto disclosed that the two who were pensioners from the American Civil Service were murdered over a 218.5 acres of land at Fiahankra near Akuamufie also in the Eastern region.
