Six MPs to visit Britain

The British High Commission on Friday announced that a six-member cross-party delegation from the Ghanaian Parliament would be paying an official visit to the United Kingdom from March 10-14 as guest of the British government.

They are Mr Kwabena Sarfo, Mr Albert Obbin, Mr Ransford Agyepong, all NPP MPs. Two NDC MPs, Mrs Hanna Tetteh-Kpodar, Mr Felix Twumasi-Appiah and Mr David Apasera of the PNC.

They would be accompanied by Mr Robert Apodolla, Principal Assistant Clerk.

The visit is aimed at providing the delegation with an in-depth working of the British Parliament including Select Committees.

They would also meet members of leading political parties in the UK, members of lobby groups and others involved in parliamentary process.

Mr Robin Gwynn, Deputy British High Commissioner who had a meeting with the MPs at the office of the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Peter Ala Adjetey said he was happy that such a visit had been arranged for members from across political spectrum.

Mr Gwynn said it was "a unique opportunity for the members to see for themselves how the British Parliamentary system operates.

"Britain strongly supports the growth and strengthening of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.

"Ghana can be proud of the smooth and peaceful transition of power that took place two years ago, in response to the demonstrated will of the prople.

He commended the efforts and said it was an example for other African countries.
