Aide to the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Charles Owusu says his boss did extremely well at the commission and hope his heir will continue with the good works.

According to Charles Owusu, it is “unfortunate” his boss has been asked to retire but was quick to laud the President for the opportunity.

He noted that, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie’s leadership at the commission supervised the planting of over ten thousand trees across the country and other “proper” structures introduced at the commission.

“This has never happened before at the commission,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.

Charles Owusu's comments come after some eight Chief Executive Officers [CEOs] including his boss who are heading some government institutions were asked to leave by March 2019.

The eight CEOs have long passed the mandatory retirement age of 60 hence the directive for them to hand over to their deputies in the meantime.

The Public Service Act mandates public officers to retire from public service after attaining the age of 60.

The Act, however, allows for an extension of about five years if the President so wishes.

The eight, which includes the CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly called Sir John, 65 years, are set to be replaced in the coming month.

The rest of the affected CEOs include:

Eugene Ofosuhene, 67 years – Controller and Accountant General

Kofi Jumah, 68 years – CEO of Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC)

Isaac Osei, 67 years – CEO of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR)

Kwame Owusu, 67 years – CEO of Ghana Maritime Authority

Anthony Nsiah-Asare, 65 years – Director General of the Ghana Health Service

Samuel Annor, 64 years – CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority

K. K Sarpong, 65 years – CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC)
