Sir John Dares: Let Kennedy Agyapong prove am corrupt

General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, has thrown a challenge to his critics to prove that he is corrupt.

The Assin North Member of Parliament accused the current leadership of the NPP of mismanaging the 2012 campaign funds.

Kennedy Agyapong has also threatened to disassociate himself from the NPP if delegates elect the current executives, especially Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, the party Chairman.

Aide to Kwabena Agyapong (also an aspiring General Secretary), Davis Opoku, has also described Sir John as the greatest enemy of the NPP.

Responding to the criticisms in an interview with Alhassan Suhuyini on the Gold Power Drive Wednesday, Sir John refuted claims that he is corrupt.

“I don’t see myself as corrupt in any shape or form. Let those people who say that people are corrupt prove it. Let them put their money where their mouths are. Let them come and give further and better particulars. I deny that Kennedy Agyapong gave us motorbikes…let him come and tell us who he gave his money to and who he gave the motorbikes to,” he dared Kennedy Agyapong.

Sir John described his critics as desperate people who are poised to get him out of the way, saying their criticisms will not wash as delegates across the country are confident in his candidature.

“I am very happy the rank and file of our party see the good job that we’ve done. As I go round the country, the delegates are happy with the job that I’ve done…the delegates will determine who should lead the party. The delegates know who has worked for this party, and they will renew their mandate come March 1st,” he said.

Commenting on why the Assin North MP has not been dragged before the disciplinary committee of the NPP, Sir John disclosed that Kennedy Agyapong will face the committee soon. He also revealed that the committee has sent an invitation to him (Sir John) to answer to some allegations leveled against him.

On the assertion that he has failed as a General Secretary of the party for losing two elections which sent the party into opposition, Sir John said his successes are there for all to see.

When quizzed over his assessment of the performance of his party Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, he described his leadership as one which gave the party good results in the 2012 elections.
