A seasoned Journalist and Political Analyst, Kojo Marfo has charged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh known as Napo for backing the decision by the management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to convert the two all-male halls of the University into mixed halls.

It would be recalled that on July 15, 2018 MyNewsGh.com reported on how the Minister of Education Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh who was speaking at the 52nd Congregation Ceremony of the University backed the decision said to be the remote cause of the recent skirmishes on the campus.

According to Kojo Marfo, the majority of Ghanaians are attributing KNUST students rioting to the Vice Chancellor’s decision to convert the two all-male halls of the University into mixed halls.

Kojo Marfo who was speaking on Abusua Nkommo said “I have listened to NPP gurus calling for the dismissal of the Vice Chancellor all because he implemented mixed halls at the Unity”.

"If the Vice Chancellor’s decision to convert the two all-male halls of the University into mixed halls was bad then why did the Education Minister support it?. If the Vice Chancellor should go then Education Minister should also go” he said.

He added that it is unconstitutional for the government to dissolve the university’s governing council.

MyNewsGh.com last week reported how the Ministry of Education on Thursday, October 25, 2018 dissolved the governing council of the university with immediate effect and constituted a 7-member interim governing council to superintend the affairs of the institutions.

Among the mandate of the interim council is to within the three-month period given it is to; assume the powers of the governing council, establish the causes of the recent riots on campus, establish the full extent and cost of damage caused and to resolve the differences between University management and the student.

According to the communique released by the Ministry of the Education, the 7-member committee includes; Nana Effah Appenteng who will chair the interim council, Professor Mrs Rita Akosua Dickson, Dr. Edward Baffoe-Bonnie, Madam Hilda Hagar Ampadu, Professor Joshua Ayarkwa , Mrs. Abena Antwi and Mr. Kelvin Sah.
