Shortage of oxygen at KATH, Fire service to the rescue

Some patients died as a result of the shortage Some patients died as a result of the shortage

The Ashanti Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is pledging its readiness to supply quantities of oxygen to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

This comes on the back of threats by doctors at KATH on Tuesday to lay down their tools in the coming days due to lack of oxygen and blood supply at the only referral facility in the region.

It was reported that some patients died when their oxygen cut out.

But speaking to host of Ultimate Breakfast Show Lantam Papanko, the regional Deputy Chief Fire Officer DCFO Semekor Fiadzoe explained that the service has in stock large quantities of oxygen it can give out to KATH to aid work of doctors.

He failed to mention if the service will give the oxygen out for free or at a charge.

‘We have an oxygen machine at the regional headquarters of the service, we want management of KATH to contact us to see if its compatible then we can give them oxygen, we want to offer that assistance, we can give to them in large quantities,’ he assured.
