Sharing sexually explicit videos and images involving minors is a serious crime, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has warned, cautioning that anyone caught could face prison terms of five years or more.

In a statement released on December 15, 2025, the Authority said such acts amount to serious criminal offences under Ghanaian law.

It explained that Section 62 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) expressly forbids the creation, possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

“The public is reminded that sharing indecent videos or images of children is a criminal offence under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038). Section 62 of the Act prohibits any person from taking, producing, publishing or streaming, or possessing indecent images or photographs of a child on a computer system or electronic device, including mobile phones,” the notice stated.

The Authority reiterated that the law clearly bans the taking, production, publication, streaming, or possession of indecent images of children on any digital platform or electronic device.

According to the CSA, individuals, bloggers or institutions found to be circulating such explicit content involving children risk harsh sanctions under the law.

It warned that offenders are liable to imprisonment for a minimum of five years and a maximum of ten years.

The Authority also advised members of the public who come across such material to delete it immediately and avoid sharing it further, noting that forwarding the content also constitutes an offence.

Additionally, the CSA urged the public to report individuals and bloggers involved in the distribution of the explicit material through its designated cybersecurity and cybercrime reporting channels to enable swift action.
