Shaft Radio to intensify blood donation campaign at Obuasi

Obuasi, June 13, GNA - Management of Shaft FM Radio Station at Obuasi, is to undertake a bi-annual blood donation campaign to encourage more people to donate blood to help save lives at health facilities in the Obuasi Municipality.

According to General Manager of Shaft Radio, Mr. Clarence Ankomah, the exercise would be extended to other areas to increase blood bank stock at health facilities.

Mr Ankomah, who was speaking at the fifth blood donation campaign at Obuasi, said: 93The feedback from the health facilities indicate that the blood donation programme is saving lives. The programme has also been accepted by the people of Obuasi as one of their main events.

The News Editor of the Radio Station, Albert Nana Asante, observed said "as a radio station, we have a role to play in saving lives in the municipality".

He commended AngloGold Ashanti, UT Bank, Millicom Ghana Limited and the Mining and Building Contractors for supporting the campaign.

Mr Charles Wompiah, Laboratory Technologist at AngloGold Ashanti Hospital, dismiss the speculation that blood donors became weak as they become older.

He said that 93The production of red blood cell is increased after donation and it gives the donor the opportunity to get fresh blood which comes with renewed vigour and youthfulness".
