Sex workers appear in court in scanty dresses!

Accra (Greater Accra) 31.10.2002 - Fifteen prostitutes appearing before an Accra Regional Tribunal on Tuesday, amazed everyone in court when they entered the courtroom scantily dressed.

The 15 who are part of a group of the 26 appealing against an earlier sentence, walked into court in tight min-skirts with skimpy tops, low waist trousers, tight trousers and track suit tops and with heavy make-ups.

The totally bemused court, including lawyers and the audience, who could not help but murmur as the prostitutes entered. As if that was not enough, their mannerisms were such that almost everyone in court was provoked and expressed disgust at their actions.

Adu Gyamfi, chairman of the tribunal who was obviously provoked by their appearance, said: “The courtroom is a decent place, it is not a hotel where you can dress anyhow.” He condemned their mode of dressing and advised them to appear in more decent dresses the next time they come to court.

While the tribunal chairman was dressing them, the prostitutes kept talking among themselves. Not even the shouts of order! order! by the court clerk could deter them from talking. Gyamfi after admonishing them, told them to go and come back on Monday for the final determination of the case.
