Seminars and workshops alone would not save Ghana- Afriyie Ankra

Takoradi, July 1, GNA - Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankra, the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said appropriate action oriented ideas would improve the country's fortunes and not seminars and workshops.

"It is time we dealt with the actual problems on the ground rather than holding various forms of conferences and seminars which does not bring any meaningful progress," he said. Mr Ankra was speaking after a familiarization visit of the Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) and its environs on Monday. The Minister visited various project sites such as the landfill site at Sofokrom, Effia number nine storm drains, Effia-Nkwanta intersection drainage, Takoradi Market Circle and the Kansaworodo-Apremdo road.

He said there is the need for Ghanaians to take their job seriously to improve upon the socio-economic development of the country. He said due to the oil find in the country, the assembly needs to position itself very well in order to sustain and benefit from it. "Since the government came into power, no changes have been made in the government institutions," he said, adding; "We believe public servants are trained to work for the government of the day and we will continue to work with dedicated public and civil servants." Mr Ankra said government expects all workers to take their work serious, be action oriented, and focus on the task ahead. "We need all the skills and ability of all to undertake the huge task that confronts the nation," he said. Kobina Annan Pra, the STMA Chief Executive said government was ready to continue with what the previous administration left off.
