Seminar On Water Management Opens At Akosombo

Akosombo (E/R), July 11, - A two-day seminar on the transfer of roles and responsibilities for water and sanitation management to district assemblies has opened at Akosombo. The seminar, which was under the theme "Decentralizing Water Wnd Sanitation Management In Volta Region", was organized by the ministries of Works and Housing and Local Government and Rural Deve In his address, Mr Isaac K. Adjei Mensah, Minister of Works and Housing, said the seminar was meant to define strategies for effective decentralization of water supply and sanitation management He said the government has taken steps to establish a body to be known as the Community Water and Sanitation Agency and that a bill to that effect is in process at the moment. The minister said, to strenghen the ground and make the agency a very effective one, the government in 1996 established the Water Resources Commission which is responsible for regulating and ma He hoped that the seminar which also marks the beg inning of the 80.6 billion cedis phase two of the ten-year Volta region community water and sanitation programme project would come out with in The phase two is designed to serve a population of about 650,000 people in the Volta region by the year 2003.
