Self-styled fetish priest jailed for stealing

Kumawu (Ash), June 12, GNA - Kofi Kusasi, a 30-year-old self-styled fetish priest, has been sentenced to a 12-month jail term by a circuit court at Kumawu for stealing a sheep. He pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Daniel Ntow told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that the accused who lived at Okaikrom visited his friend, Nana Owusu, a fetish priest at Abotanso on May 18, but met his absence.

While returning, he stole a sheep belonging to Madam Afua Dansowaah, slaughtered the animal and concealed the carcass in a suitcase.

He then took a short cut route to Woraso but on reaching the outskirts of the town some residents who saw him became suspicious and demanded that he opened the suitcase he was carrying for their inspection.

Kusasi obliged and when questioned on how he came by the carcass, he said someone offered it to him to perform some rituals, an explanation they did not find convincing.

They consequently handed him over to the police at Bodomase. Madam Dansowaah later went to the police station to claim ownership of the animal.
