Sekyere Afram Plains youth commend Bagbin for appointing MP to IPU Youth Forum

The youth of Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency have expressed profound appreciation to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and the Leadership of Parliament for appointing their Member of Parliament, Nasira Afrah Gyekye, to represent Ghana at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Youth Forum.

In a press statement signed by the NDC Youth Organiser of the constituency, Moari Yahaya Jamal, the youth described the appointment as “a moment of great pride and inspiration” for the people of Sekyere Afram Plains and the Ghanaian youth at large.

“This noble recognition is not only a personal milestone for Nasira but also a monumental moment for our constituency,” the statement read. “Her appointment is a beacon of hope, demonstrating that dedication, humility, and service to the community can elevate even the most remote corners of our nation to the global stage.”

The statement praised Speaker Bagbin’s leadership and foresight in recognising the potential and commitment of Nasira, describing her selection as both “historic and motivational.”

“We are deeply grateful to the Speaker of Parliament for his discerning leadership and vision in recognising talent, commitment, and integrity in our MP,” Jamal added. “His decision to settle on Nasira Afrah Gyekye affirms the timeless Akan wisdom that when the drum beats well, it deserves to be danced to.”

Nasira Afrah Gyekye, affectionately known as Obaatanpa Hajia Nasira, is among the few Ghanaian legislators to be selected for the IPU Youth Forum since its establishment in 2013. The forum provides a global platform for young parliamentarians to influence policy and promote inclusion in governance.

The youth noted that Nasira’s appointment is a reflection of her consistent advocacy for youth empowerment, women’s development, and equitable growth in the constituency and beyond.

“Her rise to this global platform tells every young person in Sekyere Afram Plains that hard work and humility truly pay off,” the statement emphasised. “It is proof that the path of service always leads to greatness.”

Concluding the statement, the youth pledged their continuous support and prayers for their MP as she represents Ghana on the international stage.
“We are confident that she will raise high the flag of Ghana and embody the values of diligence, integrity, and compassion that have defined her leadership,” Jamal affirmed. “Sekyere Afram Plains is proud. Ghana is proud. Africa is proud.”

The youth congratulated Nasira Afrah Gyekye once again and wished her success in her new role, saying, “Ayekoo, Obaatanpa Hajia Nasira — may your light continue to shine and inspire every young Ghanaian.”
