Sekou tackles smaller parties over nonperformance

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, the last son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has described the minority political parties in Ghana as “useless” entities.

He told XYZ Breakfast that “PNC, CPP, PPP and GCPP are all useless” adding it is time they merged with the NDC or NPP.

Dr. Sekou insisted that nothing would let him change his views on his father’s CPP, implying that the party’s fortunes will continue to shrink.

He emphasized: “I will make a choice between NDC and NPP in 2016 because these are the two options we have; they are the two parties that have the ability to win elections”.

Dr. Sekou was a member of the Convention People’s Party but defected to the National Democratic Congress in 2008.

He later served as Coordinator of the National Youth Council in the Mills administration following the NDC’s victory in the 2008 election.

He, however, remained a harsh critic of President Mills’ style of running the country— a move which cost him his job as Coordinator of the National Youth Council.

Surprisingly, he withdrew his commitment to the NDC and publicly declared support to Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2012 election.
