Sekondi Primaries takes off peacefully

Sekondi, April 30, GNA - The Sekondi Constituency Primaries of the New Patriotic Party took off peacefully with 103 delegates casting their votes b 0830 hours.

Mr Kofi Bruce, Secretary to the Parliamentary Election Committee of the party, told the GNA that the elections, which should have started at about 0700 hours delayed a little because of the early morning rains. In all, 297 out of 301 delegates are expected to cast their votes to indicate which of the three aspirants: Incumbent Papa Owusu Ankomah, Lawyer Agya Pa Mercer and Kweku Sam Amoah, would be the rightful candidate to lead the party's parliamentary slot in the 2012 general election.

Mr Bruce explained that two of the delegates had died while the Nurses

Training College polling station did not have any candidate. The delegates' conference which should have preceded the elections w= as rather postponed to ensure that it did not spoil the beauty of the primaries. Most of delegates could be seen in party colours either as a dress, sc= arf, bangles, headgears or bags, among others.

Mr Erasmaus Cudjoe, NPP Constituency Chairman, explained to the GNA that the Sekondi Constituency has 53 polling stations, 10 council members and patrons with nine coordinators and 16 executives. The sitting MP adds up total 301 delegates.

He said that the constituency had introduced lots of interventions aimed at averting any disturbances.
