Members of the Board of Trustees of the East Dadekotopon Development Trust (EDDT) have described the seizure of their offices by some police personnel, land guards and vigilante group as barbaric, ridiculous and unlawful.

The board members who expressed their displeasure with the act noted that there were pending litigations in the High Court and Court of Appeal hence the perpetrators are liable to contempt of court.

Executive Secretary of EDDT, Emmanuel Odoi-Yemo speaking at a press conference in Accra said the Trust was established in April 2002 to oversee the various land issues in the area until the courts reach their final decisions.

He said, “In view of the pending court processes, it is unjustified and irresponsible for the police to unlawfully team up with the vigilantes and land guards of the La Traditional Council to unlawfully invade and seize the offices of the Trust”.

The board is calling on the Inspector General of Police to “conduct thorough investigations into the misconduct of its personnel and bring the perpetrators to book if found culpable”.

They further warned the public to beware of fraudsters and avoid purchasing lands under the EDDT’s jurisdiction from any group claiming to be a “Trustee or entity that has been instituted parallel to EDDT”.

They also urged all who have acquired landed properties or own houses with relevant documents from the EDDT to remain calm and not be swayed by threats or blackmail from groups working for the La Traditional Council.
