Seizing passports of NPP, NDC leaders needless – NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has denied asking all political leaders to deposit their passports ahead of the anticipated verdict of the election petition.

The Agona- East District Director of the Commission made the proposal recently as a means of ensuring that political leaders don’t flee the country after fomenting trouble when the Supreme Court pronounces its final verdict on Thursday.

But the communications director of the NCCE in an interview with XYZ News said the commission has not issued any such directive.

Joyce Afutu added that the proposal is a personal stance of the Commission’s Agona East Director.

“Depositing of passports with immigration or the Supreme Court is not the position of the committee. NCCE is not asking any Ghanaian or leader of any political party to deposit his passport.

“What we are saying is that Ghanaians must respect the law, supremacy of the constitution and the Supreme Court”.
