The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a schedule for a planned maintenance exercise in the Tema Region for Sunday, March 22, 2026.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, engineers are grappling with separate infrastructure failures in the Accra East and Volta Regions that have left several communities without power since Saturday, March 21, 2026.

According to an advisory issued by the power distributor earlier this month, the planned maintenance in the Tema Region will commence at 9:00 am and is expected to conclude by 3:00 pm.

The six-hour outage is set to impact a diverse range of residential, industrial, and high-security zones. Key industrial players affected include Pharmanova, Rainbow Paints, Fenice Metal, and several major quarries (Eastern, Twin, and Derby).

Residential areas such as Saglemi Housing, Boiko, and Lakpleku will also experience the downtime, alongside the Military Training Schools at Shai Hills and Bundase.

ECG technicians are utilizing this window to perform critical infrastructure upgrades designed to bolster long-term power stability within this vital industrial corridor.

Meanwhile, in the Accra East Region, customers in parts of Atomic are enduring an unplanned power outage following a burnt transformer at the Atomic Down Roundabout.

In a statement issued Saturday, March 21, 2026, the ECG confirmed that the fault has affected Atomic Down, Regimanuel Unity Gate, and surrounding areas.

The company has assured affected customers that engineers are working diligently to rectify the fault and restore normal supply as swiftly as possible.

A separate emergency has unfolded in the Volta Region, where a cable fault on the Dzodze Feeder has plunged several communities into darkness.

According to the ECG, the fault was caused by a road contractor whose activities damaged the underground cable infrastructure.

The affected areas include Tokor, Afiadenyigba, Atiteti, Ave Towns, Agborzume, Anlo, Nakyikope, Dzodze, and surrounding communities. Engineers have been deployed to the site to undertake repairs, with the company assuring customers that every effort is being made to restore power.

In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned outages.

The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring the long-term reliability of the power network while urging customers to bear with engineers as they work to resolve the various faults and complete the necessary upgrades.
