A devastating fire has severely damaged the Accra Central Police Barracks, displacing more than 140 personnel of the Ghana Police Service.

The disaster has prompted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to issue an urgent appeal for alternative accommodation to house the affected officers and their families.

According to an official statement released by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, on June 4, 2026, emergency response teams and firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed rapidly to the scene to battle the inferno.

Following the outbreak, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Accra Regional Police Commander, visited the barracks to personally assess the structural damage.
