Security officers in Aflao in the Volta Region have launched a manhunt for two persons who were hauling thousands of cartridges and large substances suspected to be Indian hemp into the country.

The two, who had entered Ghana’s border in a Nigerian registered truck, were stopped by Custom officials at Kpoglo, a station under Aflao Sunday afternoon for a regular inspection when they managed to “sneak” without notice.

They had created a false compartment under the truck where the large packs of short cartridges were stored.

A total of 99,116 cartridges and 56 compressed slaps of indian hemp were retrieved from the compartment by a joint team from the Military, National Security, CEPS, Police, Narcotics Control Board and the Bureau of National Investigations and the media.

Aflao CEPS Division Commander, Confidence Nyadzi, told TV3 that they have started taking the necessary processes to hand over the contraband goods to the relevant officials

“We have already given a situation report to the [CEPS] Commissioner. We are yet to give a formal report for further instructions and thereafter, we hand the wee to NACOB”

He said the truck was empty when the officer stopped it for inspection.
