The Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed that it has increased security measures at the Ridge Hospital following a violent incident that led to the assault of a nurse at the facility.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, Tony Goodman, one of the key interventions taken by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, in the aftermath of the incident was to request police presence at the Ridge Hospital.

He explained that officers from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) have been stationed at high-risk units of the hospital, including the Accident and Emergency Unit, the Outpatient Department, and the morgue, to help prevent future occurrences of violent incidents.

“The Ministry has since boosted security at the hospital—including in high-risk areas such as the Accident and Emergency Unit, Outpatient Department, and the morgue—to prevent future breaches.

“A letter was sent to the Greater Accra Police Command to station police personnel at the hospital. This, the Ministry can confirm, has been done,” he gave the update on Facebook on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Goodman added that the decision was made after a special committee was established by the Ministry to assess whether there was a need for increased security presence at the hospital.
