Pupils of Sebrepor Christ the King Presbyterian School, in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, are struggling to be attentive in class because of an unbearable stench which emanates from a privately owned toilet facility adjacent the school.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Ruby Adorkor Akussah, headmistress, said the stench was unbearable for both teachers and pupils saying “some teachers and pupils have fallen sick due to the pollution.“
According to the headmistress, efforts made to get the Municipal authorities to address the issue had failed.
She said the School ’s place of convenience was also in a deplorable state and that students were at risk since the school’s K.V.I.P could cave in any time soon.
“Even though, we have barricaded the place, the students still maneuver their way to use the place, “she lamented.
Mrs. Akussah again said, the student population was over whelming, adding that over 90 pupils occupied a single class room, a situation she said, had forced the school to run the shift system.
She also called on the authorities to develop the school’s idle land to decongest the classrooms to enhance teaching and learning.
When the GNA contacted the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Solomon Tettey Appiah, on the issue, he noted that the issue had been brought to him and promised the situation would be taken care of.
The Sebrepor Basi School High School has an over 1,400 student population with only 18 teaching staff.
