Hundreds of students at St. Augustine’s Senior High School in Bogoso have gathered to show love in the most impactful way—donating blood to save lives.

The initiative, dubbed the Season of Love Blood Donation Drive, is a collaborative effort by the Government Hospital Bogoso, Firm Health Ghana Foundation, and telecommunications giant MTN. The event seeks to address the persistent shortage of blood at hospitals while promoting the culture of voluntary blood donation.

Excitement filled the air as students eagerly rolled up their sleeves, motivated by the desire to contribute to a life-saving cause. Many expressed their joy at being able to make a difference beyond the usual Valentine’s Day celebrations.

"This is my first time donating blood, and I feel proud to be part of something that can save lives. Valentine’s Day is not just about gifts; it’s about love, and what better way to show love than by helping someone in need?" said a student donor.

Health professionals from the Government Hospital Bogoso were on-site to ensure a safe and seamless donation process. The Medical Supt for Government Hospital, Bogoso Dr. Dr Joseph Darko emphasized the importance of such initiatives in replenishing blood banks.

"Blood donation is crucial in saving accident victims, mothers in labor, and patients undergoing surgery. We are grateful to these young donors for their selflessness," he stated.

The Executive Director of Firm Health Ghana Foundation Dr Sylvester Akpah also commended the students for their enthusiasm.

"This is a demonstration of true love. Every pint of blood donated today has the potential to save up to three lives," he noted.

MTN Ghana, a key partner in the event, highlighted their commitment to supporting health and social impact initiatives. The company has been involved in numerous blood donation drives called Save a Life Blood Donation on 14th February annualy across the country as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.

As the day unfolded, more students joined the queue, eager to be part of the life-saving exercise. The event not only provided an opportunity for them to contribute to society but also educated them on the health benefits of blood donation, including improved heart health and reduced risk of certain diseases.
