A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday handed down a 15-year jail term to a scrap dealer for robbing a lady of her laptop, mobile phone and handbag at Dansoman in Accra.

Joseph Ganyo Okine, an ex-convict, was sentenced after the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh found him guilty at the end of the trial.

When the court gave him the opportunity to say anything before he was sentenced Okine, who was held for unlawful entry and robbery said, “I have nothing to say.”

The court noted that prosecution had proved Okine’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

According to the Court, it was offering him a deterrent sentence to serve, to show disapproval of the offence in the society.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector B.O. Yeboa told the Court that Gladys Dedei Teiko, the complainant, resides at Dansoman in Accra. Okine resides at Fadama.

On May 3, this year at about 3:00am the complainant and a witness in the case were in their room, when Okine entered their room armed with a machete.

Prosecution said Okine threatened the complainant to cut her into pieces if she failed to hand over her Rlg Laptop, and her samsung mobile phone.

According to prosecution, Okine robbed the complainant of her handbag containing her cheque book and personal effects and bolted.

Chief Inspector Yeboa said two days later, Okine was arrested for a similar offence and when the complainant was informed by the Police she identified Okine as the one who robbed her of the items.
