Scores of eligible voters in Ketu-South unable to register

Aflao, Aug 13, GNA - Scores of eligible voters in Ketu-South District desired to take advantage of the two extra days of voter registration went home disappointed due to lack of registration materials.

Some of those who registered were not issued with Voter Identity cards due to shortage of films. At Viepe Roman Catholic Church Centre, Ghana News Agency (GNA) was told by some disappointed eligible voters that the exercise ended prematurely at 1500 hours because of shortage of materials when about 40 people had queued up. Eleven others were left in limbo at Gbugbla at Aflao, however, all eligible voters at Batorme and Blekusu centres were registered.

Mr Emmanuel Danso, Ketu-South District Electoral Officer, said he had not received any official information from the field officers about shortage of materials. With regard to those whose photographs were not taken, he said the Electoral Commission (EC) would take a decision on the issue. Mr Raymond Avevor, Ketu-South District Chairman of National Democratic Congress (NDC) appealed to EC not to delay in the taking of the photographs.

The exercise originally planned from Thursday July 31 to Sunday August 10, was extended for two more days from Monday August 11 to Tuesday August 13 because of the unexpected overwhelming response to the exercise nation-wide.
