School of Survey and Mapping reopened

John Peter Amewu, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources John Peter Amewu, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister John Peter Amewu has ordered the reopening of the Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping.

Mr. Amewu directed the Lands Commission to shut down the school on May 9, after irate students destroyed school properties to protest a decision to develop a portion of the school’s land.

Authorities explained that the project was a headquarters complex for the lands commission but the students dismissed the explanation, insisting that it was rather a shopping mall that was going to be built.

The standoff caused the Lands Minister to order the closure of the school.

But information reaching Starr News indicates that the school has officially been re-opened after series of meetings with the students’ representative council and major stakeholders in the sector.

A management board has also been inaugurated at the lands ministry to ensure that the clashes that occurred do not recur.
