School children relay the importance of national flag

Ho, Feb. 15, GNA - Several school children waving the national flag and singing patriotic songs went on a route march in the Ho Municipality on Thursday to arouse public consciousness to the importance of the national emblem.

The route march ended at the forecourt of the Regional Co-ordinating Council where the Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Dzamesi, tested some of the pupils on their understanding of the national colours. The pupils, who were selected at random, were precise in interpreting the meanings of the colours in the flag. In an address before unfurling the flag, Mr Dzamesi said it represented the unity, history, pride and emotion of the country. He said the flag is a national emblem that every citizen should be ready to defend at all times and should evoke patriotism. Mr Dzamesi said the day dubbed "Rallying Round the Flag" marked an important aspect of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ghana's independence.

The ceremony ended with the rendition of the national anthem. 15 Feb. 2007
