School Block For Mmofraturo

A ?220 million two-storey clasroom block has been commissioned at Mmofraturo School in Kumasi. The project was undertaken by the Parents Teacher Association and the Methodist Church. In her welcome address the Headmistres of the School, Miss Grace R. Boateng said the provision of the classroom block which started seven years ago has tremendously increased the enrolment from two hundred and forty to eight hundred and ninety. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Ghana Legon, Professor Florence Dolphyne, who is a past student of the school said formal education helps the individual to develop his "God -given" talent. Professor Dolphyne said the government's Vision 2020 programme can only be achieved through a sound educatuional base, which allows the full participation of the population innational development and good governance. she said the low participation in girls in formal education have a lot to do with societal attitudes and nothing to do with the girls' intellectual capabilities. Professor Dolphyne urged teachers to give girls the right career counselling to prepare them adequately for the job market.
