Former Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Samuel Akurugu has disclosed the circumstances that led to his departure from the club.

Akurugu kept the poles for the Phobians when they were humiliated 5-0 by WAFA during the xx Ghana Premier League season.

The bald-headed custodian claims his problem with the club started after that game as he was blamed for the heavy loss.

“I had a problem with the Goalkeepers trainer at Hearts of Oak and Jerry Agyei after that match. He preferred our second keeper since then.

“After that heavy defeat to WAFA he refused to call me to camp for subsequent matches till I got peeved and left,” he said in an interview with Angel FM.

“I could have avoided the heavy defeat because at a point some of the players told me to feign injury, but I refused because we must fight on.”

“This was after I conceded two goals in the first half. I told them, I would rather concede more goals than to feign injury.”

Akurugu said “I see myself as gentle and noble person and I don’t want to have problem with anyone so I just left to save my career.”

He has joined Ghana Premier League side King Faisal till the end of the 2019/2020 season after returning from Japan.
