A chaotic incident in Sampa, the capital of the Jaman North District, has thrown the town into a state of panic.

The violent clash is reported to have occurred on September 10, 2025, following the renewal of a long-standing chieftaincy feud.

Circumstances leading to the violent clash

According to GhanaWeb’s correspondent in the Bono Region, the recent clash is linked to renewed tensions surrounding the protracted chieftaincy dispute between rival factions in the town.

Sporadic gunfire also broke out during the chaos, sending residents fleeing for safety to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

Damages caused by the clash

The violent clash escalated, resulting in several houses being set on fire and burned down by the suspects, including large parts of the Sampa main market.

The report also indicates that the clash led to the death of a woman who was shot, and left a police officer injured after being caught in the violence.

Several others are reported to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The police officer who sustained gunshot wounds is currently receiving medical attention at the Sampa Government Hospital.

DCE confirms incident

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Jaman North, George Adane, confirmed the incident to GhanaWeb, disclosing that a shooting incident had occurred, resulting in the loss of lives and property.

“There was indeed a shooting incident in Sampa on September, 10, 2025, which led to the death of a woman and injured others. Aside from that, properties have also been burnt over the chieftaincy issue in Sampa”.

Police deployment

The DCE George Adane, also disclosed that a joint security team of 100 police officers and 40 military personnel have been deployed to Sampa to contain the violence, protect lives and property, and prevent any further escalation of the clash.

“As I speak, security has been beefed up in Sampa with the deployment of 100 police officers and 40 military personnel to the community to help restore order in the community”.

Sampa chieftaincy dispute: Police, military move in to forestall reprisals

Calm has been restored through the intervention of the Ghana Police Service.

“The Inspector-General of Police has deployed reinforcement teams to Sampa, in the Bono Region, following violent chieftaincy disturbances in the town on September, 10, 2025, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to some others. The Police have since restored calm, beefed up security and intensified patrols within Sampa and surrounding communities,” the statement by the police said.
