Chief Executive Officer of Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has addressed speculation regarding his reduced political visibility, explaining that his current leadership role demands a more measured and strategic approach.
He noted that the transition from partisan activism to corporate governance requires a shift in public engagement.
Speaking on PM Express Business Edition on JoyNews on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Gyamfi opened up about how his role has evolved since taking on the national assignment, noting that while he remains deeply rooted in politics, the demands of his office have forced him to step back from the spotlight.
"Well, I'm still in politics; what we are doing is a political job. So, I'm not really a corporate person. I refuse to see myself like that," he said.
Gyamfi, who also serves as the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clarified that his reduced visibility should not be mistaken for disengagement.
Instead, he described it as a necessary adjustment to balance his dual responsibilities.
"I'm still the serving National Communications Officer of the NDC but admittedly, my time for that role has reduced significantly," he stated.
He explained that the party’s communication machinery continues to run effectively, thanks to a strong team that has stepped up in his partial absence.
"Thankfully, I have enabled a deputy and minister for government communications, who is also another brother and we are collaborating," he said.
Despite operating more from behind the scenes, Gyamfi emphasised that he remains actively involved in political communication, assuring supporters that his voice will still be heard at the appropriate time.
"We do a lot of Political communication work, even now that I find myself in this role, but from the background and at the right time, I believe Ghanaians, particularly party supporters, will see more of us in the political communication space," he stated.
His remarks point to a deliberate recalibration rather than a retreat, as he shifts focus toward his national duties while maintaining his political identity.
"We've been given an important assignment… Fortunately, I believe we have a very capable, competent, effective, you know, communicator, most of them are very young guys who are doing the same job that some of us were doing," he said.
Gyamfi also admitted that his absence from the frontline of political discourse has been noticed by many.
“But I agree, sometimes people will miss your face, people will miss a voice, and so we won’t make time for that as well,” he added.
Even so, he made it clear that his primary focus remains on delivering results in his current role.
“But primarily, the work is cut out for us, and that is to ensure that we transform Ghana’s gold sector and optimise national benefits from the good resources we’ve been endowed with by Almighty God," he said
