The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has urged management at Ghana Digital Centers Limited (GDCL) to transform the company into a commercially viable enterprise, while assuring staff that no employee will lose their job following the recent flooding in Accra.

This assurance comes amid reports that GDCL management was considering suspending the employment contracts of all staff after parts of the Accra Digital Centre were damaged by the floods.

Although operations were disrupted by the June 29 floods, the Centre has continued recovery efforts as the government works to restore confidence among tenants, investors, and the wider digital ecosystem.

The Ministry, however, directed management to immediately reverse the suspension, reaffirming government’s commitment to protecting jobs as recovery efforts gathered pace.

Speaking to board members and staff of GDCL on Monday, July 13, 2026, Minister Sam Nartey George sought to put lingering uncertainty over employees’ future to rest.

“We are not laying off any staff of GDCL, whether temporarily or permanently, because of the flood. Every one of you is assured of the continuity of your jobs,” he said.

Sam George further reaffirmed the government’s support, urging that the flooding should be a turning point for repositioning the company as a financially sustainable business rather than a return to normal operations.

“Let’s take this as the reset of the reset. Every staff member will have to play their role because it’s not going to be business as usual,” he stated.

He also said the Ministry would continue to support the Centre’s recovery while strengthening corporate governance, improving operational efficiency, and restoring long-term sustainability.
