Salesman jailed five years for stealing

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - Augustine Kwabla Kirk, a salesman, was on Friday sentenced to five years imprisonment for stealing GH¢17,758 belonging to his employer.

Kirk was convicted on his own plea by Mrs. Doris Bimpong, presiding over an Accra Circuit Court.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Michael Jubiok told the court that the complainant, Mr. Edward Bortey Tawiah, deals in foam mattresses on the Spintex Road in Accra.

He said on April 24, this year, at about 1000 hours, the complainant audited his stock and detected some lapses in the sales book and tally cards.

Prosecution said the complainant called on the internal auditors from Ash Foam Company Limited to audit their accounts after which the auditors' report revealed that there was a shortage of GH¢17,758.

Inspector Jubiok said the case was reported to the Police and Kirk was arrested, and in his caution statement admitted stealing from company coffers.
