The Manhyia Palace has given the government a one-week ultimatum to sack the embattled Mayor of Kumasi Kojo Bonsu or face its wrath.
The ultimatum to government comes after Mr. Bonsu apologised to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) for refusing to recognize a Chief representing the council on the Kumasi Central Market Development Project committee.
A statement by Mr. Bonsu on Friday stated, “I have taken notice of concerns raised by Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council over recent developments in the metropolis.
“I wish to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Nananom for any actions and inactions on my part, which may have incurred their displeasure.”
Government officials were alleged to have stormed the Manhyia Palace over the weekend to intercede on behalf of the embattled Mayor.
But Manhyia has denied meeting any government delegation over the impasse.
At an emergency meeting by the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday, the chiefs unanimously stated that they can no longer work with Mr. Bonsu despite his apology and the only option is for government to sack him.
One of the sub chiefs in Kumasi Otumfuo Asafohene Baffour Achemfuor Akowua told Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice that government must heed their calls and replace Mr. Bonsu before next week.
He added that the decision of the Council is irreversible, adding that government would face the consequences if it fails to dismiss Mr. Bonsu.
