The General Manager of Operations at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Philip Kofi Senyah, has urged employers to strictly adhere to pension contribution laws to help sustain the national pension scheme and protect the future of Ghanaian workers.
Speaking at an Employers' Breakfast Meeting in Accra on July 16, 2025, Senyah expressed concern over a growing trend where some employers collude with their staff to avoid making contributions.
“Some employers connive with their workers and fail to contribute to SSNIT. I believe none of you is doing that,” he remarked.
He encouraged attendees to act as ambassadors and educate others on the importance of compliance with pension regulations.
He also emphasised the need for timely payments.
According to him, the law requires employers to pay 13.5% of total pension contributions to SSNIT by the 14th of the following month.
“Some of you are paying, but not by the 14th. This has implications for our finances because you are starving SSNIT of investable funds,” he explained.
Senyah also reminded employers of their obligation to pay 5% to the Tier Two pension scheme, which is managed separately from SSNIT.
He concluded by highlighting some of SSNIT’s recent achievements and reaffirmed the Trust’s commitment to improving service delivery nationwide.
